The way I read it Mary was that despite the commentry, just by reading the literature, its was easy for Wanderer to go back to his old mindset and think it makes sense. Not that he is in actual agreement with the WTS. Thats how i saw it anyhow, based on his questions after.

What do you think about gays and abortion now.......................?????

when you saw the wt for what it was and realized it was not the truth, how did that affect your thoughts on subjects like homosexuality or abortion for example.. did you start to think differently suddenly or did it take a long time ?.................or maybe you havent changed your minds on what the wt condemns.. i was quite shocked at how i accepted my teenage son was sexually active and i talked to him about condoms and this being an important thing in his and gfs life and where they sure they were ready.

i didnt tell him not to do it !.

actually i think i always had my thoughts on different subjects that werent in line with the org, i just pushed what i really thought to the back of my mind.. there are many different subjects name one that you relate to.. .

Although I find the idea of both acts distasteful to me personally, I have both a friend who had an abortion, and another that is gay, friendships I would never have had if i was still a JW. I find that i'm no longer judgemental and with something like homosexuality, I think that people who are gay have not chosen to be so but rather its the way they are, how they feel inside, just in the same way I am hetrosexual - thats me.

I think that the propagander is very powerful indeed, I wonder if we went into a pattern of all the meetings and study etc avoid looking outside of it, that we would not start to think like a JW again? I'm sure that my not doing prestudy, helped me break free of the mindset. Afterall most of us know there were area's we didnt agree with but simply had to supress, because of how our minds worked at that time.

Did You Think Elders Should've Been Able To Be "Elders For Life"?

some of the stupidest witnesses are elders.

i've known more than a few that were basically "nice guys" but as dumb as a stump!

some never knew when to keep quiet and the other elders always had to cover for them.

I have to agree that most if not all elders might not make it as an Elder today if they were trying to be appointed by the level of (WTS) service they do currently, and the bad attitude they mostly have. My JW mother says they will be judged much more than any non elder if they stumble any, to which I reply then they will all be judged harshly.

I was surprised at the reaction when I left, because I used to voice opinions on things - smaller things usually, like beards etc. But I guess I did hide things, even from myself - strange as that may sound.

I am getting quite sick of seeing how the writer talks to the reader in these article's, its like some sort of religious self help book, and yet we dont know who writes it and what qualifications they have. All we do know is it becomes approved by the GB, who as a group continue to show they blind the minds of their followers. They simply demand obedience, and guilt people into complying.

i was doing some work on my car, when this dub turns up to give me the tract.

he makes his presentation in a way that doesnt promote discussion.

unfortunately i feel slightly frustrated that i didnt ask him a few questions, ok he wouldnt have listened or would have claimed to go away and research it, but still i felt i missed a golden opportunity to give a 'witness' back.

My sister is getting married on Saturday (dub wedding)

the wedding has arrived, i've been maintaining a stance of not attending, but this last week had a slight change of heart and thought i might attend afterall.

i thought it would be a good chance to hold my head up and show i've got a life.

after some further thought and talking to my sister, i've decided to not attend.

The wedding has come and gone and...hey I feel quite ok about it. I've asked my parents how it went and so on, I guess i've accepted things how they are right now.

Is this part of moving on I wonder?

What are the Elders thinking? What are JW's thinking?

there was a time when most jw's solemly believed that the "end" was comming in their life time, that the preaching work was a life saving work and the most important work on earth and that the wts was god's organization, god's agency, the only channel of communication on earth.

i think that most jws today somewhat still vagely believe that now but i wonder, what is going on in the minds and hearts of the jws today?

what is everyone thinking?

Although no longer a witness, I am of the oppinion that its a lot easier to do and promote something you believe in. My own experience is that as a child I believed to the extent you can at that age, the older i got the less I saw it as a reality, and really the control technique's held me in a lot longer than where my mind was. I think that those in reinforce their belief's and deny themselves any doubts, and simply 'want' the organisation to be right. Be interested to hear from current JW's.

Thanks for posting this OTWO. One JW that i've been trying to talk to, certainly has this 'wall' effect whenever I bring something up that deviates from WTS thinking. Its amazing to see it happen, and some what sobering to realise ones thinking ability is so comprimised. Imagine how different things would be if they didnt employ these techniques.
